What's in a Name?

TxPilot has added a photo to the pool:

What's in a Name?

The Racetrack Playa ranks right up there with one of the coolest places I have been to in my life. Standing there in the middle of all these rocks that seem to have minds of their own. Looking around and seeing so many of them scattered everywhere! So many different sizes and shapes. All of them moving their own direction but at the same time, some of them seem to be coordinating with each other on a common direction. Most, yes most, not all, of the rocks on the Racetrack Playa are gathered at the southeast end of this 2.7 square mile area. You would think that if there is a natural reason for the rocks to collect here that over time, ALL of them would have made their way here. Why do some remain scattered in other areas?

What is it about this place that makes it so unique that the rocks do what they do and sail around this dry lake bed like they are floating on water? Why is it that this doesn't happen elsewhere on earth?

I left this place with even more questions than I arrived with. But you know what? I think the mystery in the unanswered questions is one of the reasons I think this is one of the coolest places on earth! I sort of hope they never really find a definitive answer. ;-)
