A new project of mine is photographing ships and tugs arriving and departing the Port of Los Angeles at night. All of these photographs involve motion so fast shutter speeds and high ISOs are a must. I am using a new lens (Sigma 17-50 f2.8) which is allowing me to have a fast, constant aperture and be able to follow (zoom) the ships as they move. I am also using a tripod with ISOs in the range of 1600 to 3200.
In this photograph, the DALLAS EXPRESS was departing from Pier 400 which is out of the frame to the right and passing by Berth 300 (APL Terminal). The container cranes in the background are APL cranes. The tug was starting to spin the ship around.
